After not winning the fan vote to be the starting second baseman on the American League team in the 2015 MLB All-Star Game, the Indians Jason Kipnis was named as a reserve on the AL team on Monday. Kipnis was voted in as an AL reserve by the Player Ballot. His selection to the All-Star Game is the only one for the Indians. “It’s awesome,” said Kipnis about being named to the All-Star Game by his fellow players. “I’ve always held that in high regards, the respect from other players … respect of your peers.”
Jason Kipnis has had a great year for the Tribe, earning a lot of praise that he should have been named the AL starting second baseman. Kipnis is fifth in the entire league with a .341 batting average, third in the league with 109 hits and fourth in the league with .419 on-base percentage. He also boasts six home runs, 35 RBIs, 10 stolen bases and 56 runs scored this season. He has been the only real consistent offensive threat for the Indians thus far in the season.
After a tough 2014 MLB season, Jason Kipnis has turned his career around and, so far this season, has catapulted himself into the discussion of being one of the best second baseman in the league. With a lot of offensive struggles from the Indians team so far, Kipnis has remained hot at the plate, hitting consistently for the past many months. It is a nice story to see a player turn his fortunes after a tough season last year. The 86th Midsummer Classic will be played at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
